Sustenance Every Day

"It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees."  Deuteronomy 17:19

A few things that our kids do every day...

Wake up (after their human alarm clock goes off a few times).
Brush their teeth (hopefully).
Eat (and eat, and eat).
And sleep (much to their dismay).

Kyle eating away...1998

All of these things sustain their physical bodies that are growing by leaps and bounds. In fact, I'm thinking Kyle has grown about 4 inches in the last few months!

I want Alyssa and Kyle's spiritual lives to grow at that kind of rate too.  I think that will happen when they take time to read the Bible more often than just on Sundays. I want them to learn to gain a life-giving sustenance that comes as they soak in the true bread of life!  I long that these dear children of mine fall in love with God, in deeper ways, because they have been disciplined to spend time in His Word.

"...he is to read it all the days of his life..."

Lord, your Word is a precious gift from you, and yet it's something we sometimes take for granted.  Draw our children to yourself, Father, through your Word.  Bring it to life in their lives.  Open their minds in new ways, so that they can begin to grasp the depths of your love, the truth of your plan, and the difference you can make in their lives.  Give them a thirst and hunger for the scriptures.  I want them to meet you in personal ways as they open the pages of your Word, and spend time with you.  Lord, move them to read it all the days of their life so that they may learn to revere you, the Lord their God and follow carefully all the words.  Thank you, Lord, for the way you speak to your children in such beautiful ways.  Thank you for the gift of your Word.
