God is Truth


Today’s verse: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” --Philippians 4:8

In our Women’s Bible Study at church, we are going through the book “Me, Myself, and Lies” by Jennifer Rothschild. It’s a powerful look at the thoughts that we hold onto and believe, and that live in our thought closets on a daily basis, and learning whether or not they are based on God’s truth. There are so many lies that we beat ourselves up with, and we treat it like a tape recorder on automatic rewind. Over and over again we feed ourselves things that are not truth, and we fail to live in the freedom and truth of God’s Word.

I love this quote from our workbook…
“When we meditate on God’s wonders and Word, we have little room in our thought closet for anything else! We enjoy a thought closet stocked with truth. My friend, what you tuck into your thought closet will become the wardrobe of your life.” (“Me, Myself, & Lies” by Jennifer Rothschild, page 22)

It’s so easy to live focused on lies. The lies that say we are ugly, unloved, inadequate, unkind, impatient, unwanted, unforgivable, lazy, dumb, fat…the list goes on, and on, and on. Instead we need to fill our hearts, minds and souls with the truth. His infallible truth.

I’m not sure what untruth my kids hold in their hearts and minds, but I pray that where there are lies, God will replace it with His truth. I want the wardrobe of their lives to be filled with all that God truly believes about them. I hope they hold on to the truth that they ARE loved, gifted, adequate, and beautiful child of God.

May God’s voice of Truth be the loudest of all.

Lord, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or worthy of praise – I pray that my kids think about such things. Replace the lies they are beginning to believe about themselves, and replace it with your truth. Take the untruths and replace them with your Word, covering them with a wardrobe of your deep, deep love. Where they feel unlovely, extend a confidence that you have made them in wonderful ways. Where they feel inadequate, remind them of their great worth in you, and the purpose you have created them for. Where they feel unloved, reveal to them the depth to which you loved when you sent your Son to die on a cross. Lord, you are truth. Fill my children with you
