Restored Health

"But I will restore you to health..." Jeremiah 30:17

Our girl has been under the weather for the last two weeks. Its hard having her so far from home when she's not feeling good. This weekend she is supposed to go off on her annual Art Retreat.  Oh what a bummer it would be to feel crummy while doing what you love. I'm praying that today, my dear sweet daughter, will sense God's healing on her body and His strength nourishing her weakness.

Restore her health, Jesus!

Lord, your hands heal.  Please intervene in Alyssa body, and bring health and strength to her as  she goes about the busy activities of her life.  Move in and through her inner being, as her Creator and Maker, and bring her to perfect health.  As Alyssa fights this bug, Lord, I pray that she can find rest. This is the day you have made, and we will trust you with all that it holds.

Tip-Top Shape

" I don't know about you, but I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me!  1 Corinthians 9:26 (The Message)

For weeks (or months) now, Kyle has been conditioning for the new baseball season that is about to begin.  His high school baseball tryouts are today.  YAHOO!  On top of all the baseball work outs he's been taking a weight lifting class since the beginning of the school year.  I'll tell you what, because of all this "fun" stuff, he's growing strong and healthy. (So strong and healthy that he's growing out of his clothes...good grief!)

I am reminded to pray for both my kid's continued health in life, but also their discipline to do their part to stay that in tip-top shape.

I hate to admit it, but you better pray for their mom as well...

Lord, our bodies are the temple of your Holy Spirit, and you want us to lead disciplined and healthy lives.  I pray that Alyssa and Kyle find within themselves to do their best at keeping their bodies in tip-top shape, looking to your help to be disciplined in their eating habits and exercise.  I don't want them to be obsessed by it, by any means, nor become prideful in their body image, but I do pray that they become good stewards of the bodies you have given them.  May they give everything that have to keep from sloppy living.  Thank you, dear Jesus, for Alyssa and Kyle's health and their strong and able bodies.  You have fearfully and wonderfully made my precious babies!  And oh how I love them!

Needed Restoration

Our kids are a little under the weather.  I've started hearing the rumblings of sore throats, stuffy noses, and upset tummies.  I'm praying that today, my dear sweet children, sense God's healing on their bodies and His strength nourishing their weakness.

Restore them, Father!

Boo-Boos and Owies

"This sickness is not fatal. It will become an occasion to show God's glory by glorifying God's Son."  John 11:4

Kyle with a broken wrist (2011)

I remember fevers panicking this new mom,
Boo-boos on the knees and tears that needed comfort,
A broken finger before the first day of kindergarten,
A black eye from a baseball collision,
Raspberries from sliding into second base,
Or a broken wrist from trying to be safe at home plate.
Yesterday, it was oral surgery to remove four wisdom teeth.

Boo-boos, owies, and not-feeling-so-good moments.

A mom just hates to see her babies not feeling good or experiencing pain.  God doesn't promise me that they will never be harmed or free from illness.  I've been fully aware recently how fragile life truly is.  I'm praying for health and protection, and that in those occasions of sickness or hurt that they (and I) allow them show God's glory through our lives.

Lord, thank you for the health you have blessed Alyssa and Kyle with.  You have given them strong minds and bodies that can be used to show your glory.  Through the years you have provided much protection and healing and I give you thanks.  I ask, Father, that you continue to walk beside Alyssa and Kyle, giving them healing from sickness and protection from harm.  I am thankful for the life you give day after day.

A Sleep-Over

"I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety."  Psalm 4:8

 One sleepy girl! (1999)

With teenagers, sleep cycles can sometimes get out of whack.  Mine and theirs (sometimes I think I am too old for their late night adventures).  If I'd let them, I'm sure my kids would stay up until 2 am and then sleep in until noon.  However, with school's early morning hours, sleeping in isn't a luxury they get very often.

With their growing bodies and the taxing brain activity of school, I'm thinking that both Alyssa and Kyle (and their mother) need some deep, deep sleep.

A "sleep-over" is definitely in order (kind of like a make-over of our sleep habits)!

Early to bed, Early to rise,
Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

Yawn.

Lord, bring Alyssa and Kyle a deep and sweet sleep.  In the quiet of the night hours, I pray that my babies get the sleep that they need for their growing bodies and minds. Remove any barriers, dear Jesus, that are keeping them from waking refreshed and ready for the day. You are the one to give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak (Isaiah 40:29). May Alyssa and Kyle find your mercies new every morning and your strength in abundant supply. When their eyes are open through the watches of the night, help them to meditate on your promises (Psalm 119:148). Be Alyssa and Kyle's strength every morning (Isaiah 33:2).

Healthy Habits

" I don't know about you, but I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me!  1 Corinthians 9:26 (The Message)

For weeks (or months) now, Kyle has been conditioning for the new baseball season that is about to begin.  On top of that he's been taking a weight lifting class since the beginning of the school year.  Between all this "fun" stuff, he's growing strong and healthy.

Kyle's dad is good at keeping up with good exercise too. I need to be better at following their example.

Today, as Kyle's out running "suicides" and lifting a few pounds in the weight room, I am reminded to pray for our kid's continued health in life, but also their discipline to do their part to stay that in tip-top shape.

You better pray for their mom as well...

Thankful Thursday: Life and Breath

"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord."  Psalm 150:6

Yesterday there was a sad story on the news in our area...

3-year old boy dies in swing set accident

As I heard about this heartbreaking story, I was reminded to be thankful for my children, and that they are alive, healthy, and safe.  I can hardly fathom what the parents of this little boy must be going through.

I am praying for them, and at the same time thankful for Alyssa and Kyle's life and breath.

Lord, be near the parents of Asher Meyers.  Comfort their hearts and give them strength in this day, to handle their grief, and all the comes with this great loss.  It reminds me today, dear Jesus, to give you thanks for the life and breath of my dear children.  Forgive me for the times when I take that for granted, and am focused on all the difficult things that come with being a parent.  Help me to take great delight today in who you have made Alyssa and Kyle to be, and the little moments we have together in laughter and conversation.  I long that my children live their lives fully, to an old age, and always in good health, following your plans for their lives.  But I trust you, Lord, for each breath they take and for however long their life is.  Lord, may their lives always be filled with you, and their days marked by your Spirit leading, growing, and blessing them.  I thank you, Lord, for Alyssa and Kyle.

Restored Health

"But I will restore you to health..." Jeremiah 30:17

 Easter 2010

Our family is attempting to come down with it's second illness of this school year.  NO! NO! NO!  Please, no.  Of course, I can't help but expect it.  We've been running here, there, and everywhere for the last few weeks as one kid is in volleyball five nights a week, Saturday is filled with baseball, and Sunday is church from sun-up to sun-down.  We've had little time to breathe or rest.  So, I've started hearing rumblings of sore throats, headaches, and exhaustion.

I'm praying that today, my dear hubby and sweet children, sense God's healing on their bodies, and His strength nourishing their weakness.

Restore us, Father!

Lord, your hand heals.  Please intervene in my family's bodies, and bring health and strength to them, as they go about the busy activities of their lives.  You move in and through our inner beings, and you are our Creator and Maker, and can bring us to perfect health.  As they fight off these viruses and bugs, Lord, may they also find rest.  Lord, this is the day you have made, and we will trust you with all that it holds.

Oh, the Gall

Today's verse:  "Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers."  3 John 1:2

Yesterday I got to have a look at my kidneys, liver, spleen, stomach, and gallbladder.  Not that I could really tell what I was seeing.  I only knew because someone trained on how to read an ultrasound machine could tell me what body part I was looking at.  If I didn't know better, it looked much like the ultrasounds I had when I was pregnant.  Whew...that's not why I was there.  I won't know for a couple of days if anything unusual appeared, but it was kind of an interesting experience.

God made our bodies so amazing.  Each part has it's function and purpose.  Except the gall bladder, the weird little thing.  That's what I really went in to have checked, and the doctor informed me that it has no hugely important function, and if I had to have it removed, I would not be any worse off.  I wonder why God gave us a gall bladder then?  One of those questions I guess we'll get to ask Him one day, I guess.

Anyway, as I watched my body parts flash up on the screen, I was reminded to be thankful for my children's bodies and their good health. A cold here or there, and a headache or two once in a while, is about as major a health problem as we've ever had to deal with.  I'm so, so thankful that they have strong and healthy bodies today.  You can bet your bottom dollar that I am praying it stays that way for a very long time.

Thank you, dear Jesus, for the health of my children.  They each have strong, able and beautiful bodies that are a gift from you.  You make each body part vital...how amazing is you are.  Lord, continue to protect the health of my babies.  Save them from being run down, having colds, but also anything that is life threatening.  You are the giver of each day, and of every heart beat, and we trust you for each moment we live and breathe.  You have fearfully and wonderfully made each of my children.  Bring strength to each limb, allowing them to do things that they can only do with your power.  Give them refreshing sleep each night, so they can wake up and feel ready to follow your calling on their lives.  You are the giver of the air that we breathe, and the bodies we live in, and we trust you with each moment we live.
