Saying Sorry
"Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed." James 5:16
"An apology is the superglue of life. It can repair about anything." --Lynn Johnston
Saying sorry is sometimes the hardest thing to do. It's an important lesson in life and I pray that I've taught my kids well enough.
Sorry is more than just the words.you say.
Sorry is listening and understanding.
Sorry is vital to every healthy relationship.
My kids, it's sometimes "hard to say I'm sorry", but it's always worth saying. When you do, you show value to the other person and reflect the God who lives in you!
Lord, I pray that you soften and mold Alyssa and Kyle's hearts so that knowing when to say"sorry" becomes first nature to them. Make them sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, dear Jesus, and have spirits that are compassionate, merciful, and forgiving. I pray that your Spirit is always leading, guiding, prompting and healing Alyssa and Kyle's hearts. Lord, make it easy for my dear children to say they are sorry.

Boo-Boos and Owies
"This sickness is not fatal. It will become an occasion to show God's glory by glorifying God's Son." John 11:4
I remember fevers panicking this new mom,
Boo-boos on the knees and tears that needed comfort,
A broken finger before the first day of kindergarten,
A black eye from a baseball collision,
Raspberries from sliding into second base,
Or a broken wrist from trying to be safe at home plate.
Yesterday, it was oral surgery to remove four wisdom teeth.
Boo-boos, owies, and not-feeling-so-good moments.
A mom just hates to see her babies not feeling good or experiencing pain. God doesn't promise me that they will never be harmed or free from illness. I've been fully aware recently how fragile life truly is. I'm praying for health and protection, and that in those occasions of sickness or hurt that they (and I) allow them show God's glory through our lives.
Lord, thank you for the health you have blessed Alyssa and Kyle with. You have given them strong minds and bodies that can be used to show your glory. Through the years you have provided much protection and healing and I give you thanks. I ask, Father, that you continue to walk beside Alyssa and Kyle, giving them healing from sickness and protection from harm. I am thankful for the life you give day after day.

Seeing Clearly
"Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly." Mark 8:25
I'd love it if God would heal all of our eyes, so that physically we could see without the aid of contacts or glasses. I would love for Jesus to put His hands on our eyes and make them new. As I reflect, however, I long for the same touch on the eyes of our hearts. Oh to be able to see clearly all that God does in our lives, or to recognize when He's leading or carrying us. And to behold His glory, wonder, and awesomeness. To gaze upon His presence with us when we feel afraid, alone, or unlovely. Or be able to take in the profound truth as we study His Word.
I want my blinders removed, and I want the same for my children, so that they can see Him clearly.
Lord, open Alyssa and Kyle's eyes that they may see you, know you, and hold to your truths. Give them restored sight for the things of your kingdom, and the ways in which you call them to live in your truth. Remove the veil from their eyes so they can recognize and understand your holiness, the life you call them of servanthood, or the power of your Word in their lives. If there is anything that keeps them from seeing you, dear Jesus, remove it so they can know and believe in you all the days of their lives. Oh the sweetness of restored sight, where we can see the world as you see it, and rest in knowing you are with us. May it be so for Alyssa and Kyle. Thank you, Precious Father!
New Glasses...2003
It always seems that one of us in our family is struggling with our contacts. All four of us have the pleasure of needing help to see clearly. This week its Kyle's turn. Much to his dismay, he had to wear his glasses to school yesterday. So not cool. I kept wanting to remind him how thankful he should be to have something that helps him see, but you know, sometimes those things aren't received well if Mom says it. So, I didn't.

Our Fixer-Upper
"Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings." Isaiah 58:12
Kyle's got a big project going right now, as you can see from the picture above. He has taken his bike a part and is repainting it. Today he has hopes of putting it all back together. I wonder if he'll have any extra parts left over. Shhhhh....don't tell him I said that. Ha! I'll have to post a picture of the finished product.
I love the fact that we have a God who can take all of the "pieces" of our life, and put them back together in perfect fashion. When we have relationships that are shattered, He can rebuild them. When our dreams seem tattered by life, He can make them new. Anything broken, God is the one to go to. He is our Almighty Fixer-Upper.
He is our "Repairer of Broken Walls and the Restorer of Streets with Dwellings."
I pray that God is the one my kids always choose to go to when they feel that parts of their life are in pieces
And today? Let's see how Kyle does at putting his bike back together.
Precious Father, how I rejoice that You alone are the Repairer of Broken Walls and the Restorer of Streets. Thank you for being the one who rebuilds the ancient ruins. Lord, I pray that my kids open the door for you to come into their lives when they are experiencing brokenness and pain. May they look to you for healing, hope, peace, and even comfort when the pieces of their life feels in shambles. You, Lord, make beautiful things out of the pieces of our lives when we put our trust and hope in you. I pray that Alyssa and Kyle know this full well.

Thankful Thursday: Words of Healing
Yesterday a friend said "I'm sorry". I didn't really know how much I needed to hear those words, or how healing they would be to my heart. The hurt was from long ago, yet I realized that it can never be too late to hear (or say) the words.
I'm thankful today that God made a way for such healing. It could be the beginning of a "new thing".
Lord, the words "I'm sorry" are so powerful, yet so often I find myself struggling to say those words. Help those words to flow easily from my mouth...to you, to my family, and to anyone I may have hurt. Thank you, Lord, that you help me "forget the former things" and not dwell on the past. I am excited to see You doing a "new thing" in my life. Continue to impress on me the need for forgiveness and humility in my relationships. What rich lessons that my children will need to learn as well. Help them, Lord, be free with their apologies and forgiveness. Though the lessons are not always fun, they always have the opportunity to make us stronger, more beautiful sons and daughters of You. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of healing and making new.

If You Want to, Dear Jesus
Today's verse: "Master, if you want to, you can heal my body." Jesus reached out and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be clean." Then and there, all signs of the leprosy were gone. Matthew 8:2-3I laughed when I read this verse today because it's the exact words I would say to Jesus. "If you want to, you can heal my body!" It's just wrong to not feel great during the holidays. My dear daughter is home sick today, my hubby is hanging onto a cough from Thanksgiving time, and I woke up this morning with a sore throat and headache. No, no, no. There is too much to do, too many places to be, and it's supposed to be the happiest season of the year. Colds and flu do not fit into the equation in any way. So, today I am praying that God heals each of our bodies.
And I can hear God's response..."I want to!"
Lord, if you want to, you can heal my body! And if you want, you can heal the bodies of my family too. I have a faith like the bleeding woman who just reached out and touched your cloak, and you healed her. Take away the aches and pains, heal the coughs, colds, and sore throats, dear Jesus. Our health is something I am always giving you thanks for. We are blessed to not be dealing with any huge life threatening issues, and I don't want to take that for granted, but today it feels like this has been a long cold season. Be our healer today, dear Jesus.

God our Healer
Today’s Verse: “Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.” Psalm 103:1-5
Our household is fighting the sickies this week. And our church had many missing members on this Sabbath day, due to all the illness that has descended in our neck of the woods. Everyone you talk to seems to have someone in their family that is at home and in bed.
Despite this sickness we are hanging on to, I’m reminded and so thankful that my children were born healthy. I’m also thankful that they have never had any life-threatening issues that we’ve had to deal with. Allergies, colds, ear infection, have been our biggest foes. So much we need to give God thanks for!
We have a God who heals. He “heals the brokenhearted” and “heals all your diseases”. He longs for us to be whole and healthy, spiritually, emotionally and physically in every way. I pray for this physically healing over my kids today. I pray for the sniffles and coughs to go away, and for energy and strength to replace their weary bodies. But I also pray that God heals them in their “inner beings” (Ephesians 3:16), and that they continue to have healthy minds, strong spirits, and right emotions.
God be our healer today!…especially since this mom hopes her kids go to school tomorrow!
Lord, we are tired and weary. Our bodies are weak and need your healing. I pray that you touch us today and mend our achy bones, heal our persistent coughs, and make us strong and healthy for a new week to begin. Thank you that you are a God who doesn’t withhold your mercy and grace, but you desire to lavish it on your children. Lord, may we see the evidence of your work in our lives. We love you and praise you today! Thank you for being our healer, and our God!
