God's Missionary
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19
A little something to ponder today:
Lord, today I pray for my dear children, Alyssa and Kyle, and lift them before your throne. Make their hearts and minds aware of your presence and call on their lives. Urge them, Father, to always follow you wherever you lead and continually do your will. In this, may others see your reflection in their lives, and be drawn to find you for themselves. Being a fisher of men is a wondrous benefit that comes if Alyssa and Kyle would live in close relationship with you. You, Lord, are the light of the world, and you are the precious Savior for all. There is no greater calling in our lives, than to follow your will.

I'd never thought of the term "missionary" in that light. I'm praying that Alyssa and Kyle always choose to do the will of the Lord! It won't always be easy, but it's a high calling that will reap God's abundant grace and blessing!"The goal of a missionary is to do God's will, not to be useful or to win the lost. A missionary is useful and he does win the lost, but that is not his goal, His goal is to do the will of his Lord." (Oswald Chamber, My Utmost for His Highest)

Servants of the Gospel
"I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power." Ephesians 3:7
I often wonder what my kids will be when they grow up. As they get older I am getting closer and closer to finding out.
When Alyssa and Kyle were little there was talk of being a paleontologist, a professional baseball player, a McDonald's worker, a dentist, and a zoologist. These careers were always based on their current passion or interest, or what made a lot of money.
As I reflected on Ephesians 3:7 yesterday, I was drawn to the first part of the verse that said "I became a servant of this gospel." My prayer is that Alyssa and Kyle find a passion for life, using the talents and gifts God has given them, all the while choosing also to be a "servant of this gospel.
I also like how the Contemporary English Version says it: "God treated me with kindness. His power worked in me, and it became my job to spread the good news."
Who knows what our kids will be doing in 10 years?
A photographer?
A baseball player?
Or even a McDonalds worker (Though I'm praying for something better!)?
Whatever it is, I pray that Alyssa and Kyle are servants of our Lord Jesus Christ, passing on the Good News and telling others about Him!
Lord, I pray that this is Alyssa and Kyle's life work: helping people understand and respond to your Message. Open their hearts and minds, sweet Jesus, to know and recognize all the ways you have treated them with kindness, and because of that awareness, they will go out and pass on the good news to others. You change people, you give salvation freely, and forgiveness flows in giant quantities. May Alyssa and Kyle know that in personal ways and always choose to be servants of this gospel. Oh the delight it will be to watch and see!

Who Will Tell Them?
But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in
him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him?
And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will
anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures
say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!" Romans 10:14-15 (NLT)
As I think about Alyssa and Kyle, and their walk with the Lord, I am conscious of the fact that they watch me in my relationship with God, and they hear what I have to say about it. Daily I am an example. In all reality, however, there is a chance that they will hear about it all better from someone else. Oh how I hope that there are other people in their lives that are involved in sharing the good news of Christ to them, that exhibit passion and commitment to Him, and help them grow in their faith.
How will they hear about Him unless someone tells them?
Lord, I pray that there are people that come in contact with Alyssa and Kyle that are not ashamed of the gospel, and will speak boldly on your behalf. I pray that You may open a door for their message, and that they may proclaim the mystery of Christ. I pray that someone may share the good news clearly to Alyssa and Kyle, and make the most of every opportunity they have to lead them closer to you. Thank you for the people you put in their lives that know you, love you, and speak of you. Thank you for the difference you make in their lives, and for the difference you can make in my kids lives. You are a God of hope, love, and relationship, and I pray that Alyssa and Kyle know the reality of your salvation!

Oh how I hope that there are other people in their lives that are involved in sharing the good news of Christ to them, that exhibit passion and commitment to Him, and help them grow in their faith.

I pray that You may open a door for their message, and that they may proclaim the mystery of Christ. I pray that someone may share the good news clearly to Alyssa and Kyle, and make the most of every opportunity they have to lead them closer to you. Thank you for the people you put in their lives that know you, love you, and speak of you. Thank you for the difference you make in their lives, and for the difference you can make in my kids lives. You are a God of hope, love, and relationship, and I pray that Alyssa and Kyle know the reality of your salvation!

Spiritual Giants
"Go,"
the LORD said to me, "and lead the people on their way, so that they
may enter and possess the land that I swore to their fathers to give
them." Deuteronomy 10:11
My heart is full of
contemplation today as I think about the spiritual giants in my life,
and wondering if I living my life in such a way that I will be looked on
as a person who encourages, leads, and stretches others in their walks
with the Lord.
And my children…will they be people who lead others closer to the Promise Land? Will they be prayer warriors who others look to when needs arise? Will they be wise about God’s Word and speak with discernment and depth, to help others understand and believe the truth written on the pages of the Book of Life? Will they live their lives in such a way that people see the hope that comes in walking step-by-step with their Savior? Will they be passionate about shouting to the world their love for Jesus, and lead others into a similar, life-saving, relationship? Oh, I pray so. I pray they become spiritual giants to the world around them. May they “lead people on their way, so that they may enter and posses the land” God has promised for His children!
Be leaders, dear ones! There is a world that is lost and they are seeking what you have to offer. Be the spiritual giants of your day.
Lord, you are the answer for a world who is lost. You are the hope, the light, and the joy of the world. There are so many who are wandering in the desert, much like the Israelites, and are seeking directions to the Promise Land. I pray that my kids sense your call in their lives to lead the way. I pray that they boldly speak your truth, share the blessing you are in their lives, and offer to the world instruction, guidance, and wisdom on how to walk with you. Lord, may they be prayer warriors, bringing the needs of others to your feet. May they be truth seekers, and scripture lovers, so that they can share you in all that they say and do. I pray that my kids develop a deep relationship with you, Father, and pass that treasure onto others. What a gift they have to share with the world!

There's a Party Going On!
“I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” Romans 9:17
Last week, I had to joy of sitting at the side of someone who was praying to ask Jesus into her heart and accept Him as her Savior. I have to tell you, that was one of the most amazing moments to be a part of! I still can't wipe the smile off my face. Now, I'm praying that my kids one day have the opportunity to be a part of such a moment!
I have to say, I think there's a party going on in heaven!!!
Lord, my heart is full of gratitude and joy that you are in the business of changing lives, and that I had the opportunity to get a glimpse of someone beginning their life journey with you. There is some fear of sharing you with those who don't know you, only because I'm fearful of not saying the right thing, but I became aware that you give the words that need to be said. Your Spirit leads and guides the conversation and speaks to the heart of those who don't yet know you. Lord, I pray that Alyssa and Kyle realized that they have been raised in you for the very purpose of proclaiming your name too. I pray that their hearts burn with desire to tell others of your love and forgiveness. Display your power in their lives, dear Jesus, that others might come to know you through them! Oh what a joy and delight!

Family of Faith
"These days should be remembered and observed in every generation by every family, and in every province and in every city." Esther 9:28
This Thanksgiving our home is a buzz with activity. Cousins, Grammy and Papa, and Aunts and Uncles are here, there and everywhere. I love it when we are all together!
After the turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy, and all the trimmings had been eaten, we did the traditional share-time of what we were thankful for. Each family member racked their brain to figure out how to really express all that God had blessed them with this year. Life, air, and cheeseburgers were a few of the answers. But covering over everything, from one generation to another, was a thankfulness for God's presence in our lives. God is good.
I love that our kids can see and hear that truth from "every generation by every family". They are learning important truths, precious promises, and seeing God's faithful work in the lives of others, and they take those things and build and growth their own faith in our Lord. I'm thankful for those little moments where faith is being passed from one generation to another.
Reflecting on God's activity in our lives, celebrating our togetherness, and laughing at stories remembered makes for one wonderful day!
Thank you, dear Jesus for generations past that loved you and served you with their lives, and laid a foundation of faith in my life. And thank you, for the grandparents, and aunts and uncles, of today that speak faith and truth into Alyssa and Kyle's life. I pray, looking forward, that Alyssa and Kyle will in turn make the most of every opportunity to pass on their faith to future generations. You are good to us, Father, and we stand in huge thankfulness for a family who loves you! May future generations find us faithful.

Glad and Free Heart
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation." Mark 16:15
People are often cringe and become afraid when they hear the word "evangelism" or the phrase "sharing your faith". Yet, we live in a world who is in need of hearing the good news. If we don't go into the world and preach the good news, who will?
My pray isn't that Alyssa and Kyle will beat people over the head with their faith, in order that they come to know Jesus, but that out of the "spontaneous overflow of a glad and free heart in Jesus" they can draw those who are lost, hurting and afraid, to the Savior of the world.
Show the world, babies, your glad and free heart in Jesus!
Lord, I pray that your light will shine in Alyssa and Kyle so that their friends, neighbors and those they work with, see you in the things that they say and do. Make Alyssa and Kyle's hearts hungry to go into the world and preach your good news. I pray that they are not looked down upon because they are young, but listened to because of their passion, wisdom, and faith. Alyssa and Kyle have the opportunity to change lives, tell the good, good story, and draw others into a personal, live giving relationship with you. Lord, may spreading the good news be a passion in Alyssa and Kyle's life.

Speak Loud
"Don't let anyone look down on you
because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech,
in life, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12
Alyssa had just turned 6 years old, and was learning to write. Freedom to communicate was at the tip of her fingers. What fun it was as parents, to find that she had some tendencies toward evangelism, and wanted to share with everyone what they too needed to do! We found this proclamation on one of the dry erase boards at church...
Lord, I hold onto this promise from your Word..."My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and forever." (Isaiah 59:21) I pray that my children always hold onto the truth that you are God, you love them with all that you are, and you are the most important treasure of their lives. May this truth be forever on their lips, and they find boldness to share it with others in their lives, and to the generations that come after them. I pray that their hearts burn with passion to spread your Word to the lost. Pursuing you, living for you, and sharing you with others will bring the greatest joy of their lives. Thank you, Lord, for holding them in the palm of your hands, and having a future for them that holds good things. They are a precious gift to us, and to the world around them. May they speak loud of your love to the world around them.

Bell Ringer Blessing
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 51:10

Yesterday I made a quick stop at Fred Meyer and was blessed by an unusual occurrence. Across the parking lot I could hear someone singing at the top of their lungs. As I made my way to the front door I could see that the music was coming from the the Salvation Army bell ringer. Not ashamed of his message, his voice was declaring...
It was not the usual bell ringer. Nor was it one of the normal Christmas carols. However, I thought it was the perfect song for this season.
Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation this Christmas, dear Jesus!
Lord, what a beautiful message the bell ringer was unashamedly sharing with the world. You are God, and you can create in us a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me. I pray it be so, especially in this season. May your presence be always near, reminding me of the joy of your salvation. I pray that somewhere in the celebrations of the season, and in the retelling of the Christmas story, my children will become fully alive in the knowledge and understanding of God's gift in His Son Jesus Christ. May the old story be made new in their hearts. And maybe one day, they will be sharing with the world the good news at the top of their lungs, just like the passionate bell ringer. Oh, may it all be so!

The Thirsty
"I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward." Mark 9:41
Yesterday was a very long day. In fact, long doesn't even begin to describe it. It was the second to last day of early voting, and that is where I've been working for the last three weeks. 1,200 + people came through the doors. My job has been to greet those people, ask their name and address, and confirm that they are registered to vote. If they aren't then I help them get registered.
I'll tell you what, talking to that many people is crazy exhausting. And it doesn't help when you forget your handy dandy water bottle. Ugh! Parched is a good way to describe how I felt for a couple of hours. I just kept longing for a break so I could run to the nearest drinking fountain.
In the midst of my struggle a lady came in to drop off her absentee ballot, and seemed very compassionate by how busy it seemed to be in the room. She said to me, "I bet you could really use a drink of water!" To which I replied, "Oh, how did you know? A drink of water would be my saving grace at this moment!" And she walked out the door.
Part of me wondered if the lady would come back with a nice cold bottle of water. I even imagined what I would tell her, and what a BLESSING from God she would have been to me. That would be a God-sighting if I ever saw it!
I think sometimes in life we come across a lot of people who are desperately thirsty and hungry for the Lord. They even say things that let us know of their longing and need, yet often in our busyness or fear we simply gloss by what they have said with their words or actions. How their life would be different if we could offer them the one "thing" that would fill their need. Because you know what?!?! We KNOW and have the "One and Only" that would truly satisfy. Oh how our hearts need to be willing to step out in courage and faith and share the truth about the true Living Water!
This sweet lady never came back with that bottle of water. Which honestly wasn't a surprise. I was just a some stranger in her day. It just gave me pause to think, and pray, that our kids (and even myself) will recognize the needs of those around them, physical or spiritual, and be willing to step out of their comfort zones and be bold in Jesus name!

Lord, open my eyes, and Alyssa and Kyle's eyes, to the hungry and thirsty people who live in our midst. Even to those we barely pass by, strangers in our busyness, may we recognize their cry for something that we have the power to lead them to. Help Alyssa and Kyle to be bold in sharing about you, dear Jesus, and helping others know you in an intimate and personal way. Open their eyes, and prod their hearts, to recognize those around them that need a helping hand in finding you. Lord, fill them with your compassion and love for the lost and hurting of this world. You are the true Living Water and Bread of Life! For this we truly love you!
Yesterday was a very long day. In fact, long doesn't even begin to describe it. It was the second to last day of early voting, and that is where I've been working for the last three weeks. 1,200 + people came through the doors. My job has been to greet those people, ask their name and address, and confirm that they are registered to vote. If they aren't then I help them get registered.
I'll tell you what, talking to that many people is crazy exhausting. And it doesn't help when you forget your handy dandy water bottle. Ugh! Parched is a good way to describe how I felt for a couple of hours. I just kept longing for a break so I could run to the nearest drinking fountain.
In the midst of my struggle a lady came in to drop off her absentee ballot, and seemed very compassionate by how busy it seemed to be in the room. She said to me, "I bet you could really use a drink of water!" To which I replied, "Oh, how did you know? A drink of water would be my saving grace at this moment!" And she walked out the door.

Becoming a Missionary

I came upon this interesting quote the other day as I was reading Oswald Chamber's My Utmost for His Highest. Just something to ponder...
Lord, today I pray for my dear children, Alyssa and Kyle, and lift them before your throne. Make their hearts and minds aware of your presence and call on their lives. Urge them, Father, to always follow you wherever you lead and continually do your will. In this, may others see your reflection in their lives, and be drawn to find you for themselves. Being a fisher of men is a wondrous benefit that comes if Alyssa and Kyle would live in close relationship with you. You, Lord, are the light of the world, and you are the precious Savior for all. There is no greater calling in our lives, than to follow your will.

I'd never thought of the term "missionary" in that light. I'm praying that Alyssa and Kyle always choose to do the will of the Lord! It won't always be easy, but it's a high calling that will reap God's abundant grace and blessing!"The goal of a missionary is to do God's will, not to be useful or to win the lost. A missionary is useful and he does win the lost, but that is not his goal, His goal is to do the will of his Lord." (09/23 devotional)

Lost and Found
This post is written by my dear hubby (a big thank you to him)....enjoy!
Monday Kyle lost his retainer for the second time in two weeks (did I mention that he’s only had the retainer for four weeks?). Ugh. After diligent searching he ended up finding the $150 prize under the seat of our van. I can’t say that I know for certain how it got there, but I can say for certain that we were all thankful that the 45 minute search ended happily. Have you ever noticed that lost items are always the last place you look?
In Luke chapter 8, Jesus told us something about His passion for the lost. He said, “Suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it?” What a fuss over a single lost coin! Why was the woman in this parable willing to sweep the entire house? There’s only one reason I can think of. It’s because that coin mattered to her. As I thought about this last night I realized that we were willing to spent extended time and effort searching for Kyle’s retainer for that same singular reason reason. It is valuable to us.
Why does God search so desperately for those who are lost? Because they matter to Him. Monday we heard Lyssa and her team offering a summary of how God worked in and through them during her Mexico mission this summer. Our hearts were pierced when we heard (anew) the story of our daughter and her friends praying with a couple to receive Christ as savior. As their dad how my heart longs for my daughter and son to always have a heart that is broken for lost people. May God consistently use them to bring His light into the darkness. Being lost doesn’t make someone less valuable. In fact, because they’re so valuable, God is on a rescue mission. I pray my kids are always tender to the spiritual condition of others around them.
Heavenly Father, I praise you for seeking me when I was lost. Thank you for seeing value in my life and for the joy of being found. How I pray that You will direct Lyssa and Kyle to always have a heart that is open to other people. May they be Your mouthpiece, Your hands, Your heart and Your feet to turn the place upside down in search for beloved and lost souls. I pray you would fill their hearts with true zeal, love and care for others and I pray you will always give them opportunities and the empowerment they need to direct others to Yourself. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Thankful Thursday: Answered Prayer
On July 2, I wrote the following blog... I'll share how God answered this prayer below.
"Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should." Ephesians 6:19-20
Sometimes it's scary to think about telling someone else about Jesus Christ. Even when it's the greatest news we could share with anyone! Recently, as I trained the workers for our Vacation Bible School, I brought up how they might have the opportunity to personally lead one of those kids into accepting Jesus as their Savior. All of a sudden I could sense fear in some of their eyes. Mostly I think we fear what we would say,or if we would get it all right.
Yesterday I mentioned that Alyssa would be taking some prayer walks on her trip to Mexico, but something else she will get to do is sit in Bible studies with new believers, and with individuals who have yet to accept Christ as their Savior. The members of her team have been asked to have their testimonies ready, so that when they have the chance they can share clearly who Jesus is in their life.
I'm praying that Alyssa will find great confidence and joy in sharing with others what Jesus means to her, and how He is God and can be God of their life too. Oh what a day of rejoicing that will be, when she can help lead someone into the most important relationship of their life!
"Evangelism" doesn't have to be a scary word, but for sure it can be a thrill!

Our lips should always glorify your name, and our lives reflect your presence living in our lives, being a vibrant testimony of your awesomeness. Last night at the outreach event I had a really great experience. There were several performances like a mime by Favi, Mark, and Melynda, and some rap, and a few skits, there was a time that was opened up for everyone to go evangelize those who did not have a ribbon (that we were given at the beginning to say we were already saved). And Shreela just led Stevie and me over to a couple that was standing in the back. And Favi translated for us, and it turned out that they wanted to accept Christ. They had made that decision last night. And so the three of us prayed with them and it was a really awesome moment.
God is sooooo good!

Lord, you are the light of the world. Thank you for dispelling darkness, bringing hope, and filling us with truth and love. Your light lives in us, and in turn we can shine your light to others. Teach them to shine your light to the lonely, hurting, angry, unloved, and may not know the hope you have to offer. I pray that they find the tenacity to let their light shine before men, in all that they say and do, and through all the days of their lives. Sometimes it's scary to think about telling someone else about Jesus Christ. Even when it's the greatest news we could share with anyone! Recently, as I trained the workers for our Vacation Bible School, I brought up how they might have the opportunity to personally lead one of those kids into accepting Jesus as their Savior. All of a sudden I could sense fear in some of their eyes. Mostly I think we fear what we would say,or if we would get it all right.

Mexico, Here She Comes!
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
We've dropped Alyssa off for her missions trip to Mexico. In some ways it is bittersweet. This will be the longest time we have been apart (4 weeks), she will be in a foreign country, and we will miss her greatly. At the same time, I know that this is a wonderful opportunity that I wouldn't want her to miss. She will be making new friends, sharing Jesus with others that don't know Him, experience the happiness others in this world have despite their poverty, and hopefully have a personal experience with Christ herself.
This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I know God has great things planned for her. You better believe it, I will be on my knees in prayer!
Oh Lord, I'm entrusting Alyssa to your care today, and every day while she is away. You've planned these moments, and this trip, just for her, and have great things in store for her. Lord, open her eyes. Open her eyes to see the world from a different view, and through the eyes of others less fortunate than herself. Open her eyes to the needs of others, and give her insight and direction in order to bless and encourage those you place in her path. Lord, and open her eyes so that she can see you in a new way, and find herself believing you in a deeper and more intimate way. Give her the strength to experience things that she thinks will be too hard, too gross, or not what she "wants". Help her to think beyond herself, and look to the interest of others. I pray that these next four weeks are life changing for Lyssa, and she comes home more beautiful in you, and deeper in love with her Savior. Oh, Lord, watch over her and keep her safe. I leave her in your hands.
